Short shifter Kit


Hello guys, i'd like to start this post by thanking the people who have viewed this blog from different parts of the world, i'm really happy to know that this blog has already reached such audience.
When i was shopping for a short shifter kit for my previous honda accord 5sp, i noticed that there wasn't much to look for:  you have a large amount of companies making the same adaptor for the shifter; and just a couple of companies actually making a short throw shifter.
I purchased one kit, which worked fine, but i wished for a taller position which wasn't an available feature for such kit.
After about a year, i decided to create my own kit.  I wanted to give the choice of a short throw without sacrificing so much the position of the knob.
I went through different sketches, trying to bring the best of both worlds, and avoiding making of this a replica of a previously available kit on the market.  Picture below shows the prototype on the left and its real scale model on the right.
The prototype was put to the test, using an actual 5sp transmission and cables.  I documented and took pictures from different angles with every gear engaged using different settings.  I was happy to see that i had better results with my adjustable shifter than the shifter i had purchased about a year before.
After the bench testing was done and notes were taken, the prototype was installed in the accord to check for clearances.  Below is a picture of the short throw shifter kit installed at its highest setting.

Attempting to achieve even better results, i created another prototype of the adjustable part of the kit, and even made a shift knob made of aluminum, and unlike most shifters available, i made the gear numbers in roman algarisms.


This prototype was machined by Tecnofresa, a small but very reliable shop, created from solid steel and meant to reuse the original bearing of the OEM shifter assembly.
A new short shiter is being designed and there are some changes already, it is expected to have a new prototype or a scale model by january of 2011.  Stay tuned for more, and once again, thanks for viewing my blog.
